This Balinese traditional massage is the stress buster you didn’t know you needed

Getting naked and oiled-up in front of a total stranger may not be your idea of a relaxing Saturday afternoon, but it should. Especially when the activity in question is a Balinese traditional massage, an ancient method that targets deep tissue and puts you in a state of slumber that would make Sleeping Beauty jealous.

You’ll find the menu options hard to decline at the Balinese-themed wellness pop-up at the JW Marriott, Sahar, on until May 20. Indonesian therapists from The Westin Resort Nusa Dua in Bali will work on sloughing off the city’s pollution via the Balinese Boreh wrap, a mask featuring a potent mix of herbs and spices, or bring your hair back to life with the Kananga hair creme bath. But if you really want to feel the tension melt away, submit yourself to the deep tissue massage.

Balinese aromatherapy spa massage

Unlike a Swedish massage, which, depending on your tolerance for pain, might leave you feeing more battered than blessed, the Indonesian version is gentle and focuses on stretching the muscles and stimulating blood flow with smooth, deliberate strokes. The aromatherapy oils work in tandem with techniques like skin rolling and reflexology to create a hypnotic effect that sends you spiralling into REM sleep before you can say “down the rabbit hole”.

After the 60 minute session, you’ll find yourself being gently brought back to consciousness, the only (unavoidable) downside of the entire experience.

Experience the Balinese Massage Pop-up at JW Marriott, Sahar until May 20.
