There are makeup artists, and then there’s Hung Vanngo. The celebrity beautifier is the master of his craft and a pro at finding the good light in any room. His artistic skills first caught the world's attention about this time last year via Selena Gomez's Snapchat, but he's been a firm favourite in the industry for years, working alongside major fashion photographers and cosmetic brands since he moved to New York City in 2006.
Over the last year, we've watched on in awe as he's been requested again and again to enhance every face in Hollywood, from the entire cast of Victoria's Secret, to every major actress with a red carpet appearance on the calendar.
While each beat he creates is dramatically different, some things remain consistent between each: air-brushed skin, plumped-up lips and perfectly blended eyeshadow tones. Here, a few things we've noted down, in an attempt to mimic his makeup at home.
Hung Vanngo spends time prepping the skin
"It's all in the skin prep, because if the skin looks good, everything else will look good," he revealed to W Magazine, while discussing no makeup makeup."I suggest using a lightweight serum first and then massaging your moisturiser on top of that. Don't forget eye cream and lip balm." On a shoot with Victoria's Secret Angel Josephine Skriver and IntoTheGloss, he smoothed on Tatcha ageless revitalising eye cream.
He avoids using a lot of powder
"Too much powder can ruin a natural makeup look," he told W Magazine. Instead he opts for creamy textures to keep the skin dewy.
He matches make-up to the outfit
"Always go with the design of the dress first," he told Hollywood Reporter. One look at his recent work and it's clear matchy-matchy can really work.
He uses nude lip liner to accentuate lips
“The Estee Edit The Barest Contour Lip Liner is a bit more sheer than a regular lip liner, so will give you a clean line without looking too done,” he told his Instagram following.
