Best beauty tips from gorgeous women who've defied ageing

Did you know Nargis was 37?

  • First, you need to get over the fact that Nargis Fakhri is 37 years old. Once you've fully absorbed that information, take a look at the power hitter she starts her day with: "Two glasses of coconut water with vegan protein powder, flax seeds, hemp seeds, bee pollen and a banana smoothie". While her skincare kit is fairly straightforward, she does profess her allegiance to the Clarisonic face brush, a master exfoliator and blood flow stimulator.

  • For a 47-year-old working mother of two, you could say Jennifer Lopez doesn't look the part. Supplementing those weekly visits to the dermatologist, Jennifer's make-up artists Mary Phillips makes sure her client is never too far from a facial mist. "I think everyone should own one if you truly want to glow," Phillips insists. Her recommendations include Tata Harper’s Hydrating Floral Essence ($76), Jurlique’s Rosewater Balancing Mist ($35) and Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist.

  • A self-confessed caffeine addict, Pretty Little Liars star Troian Bellisario now attempts to balance out her coffee with her water intake, following a 1:1 ratio. The 31-year-old reveals, "I will go through days where I’m like, “Wait a minute, why am I on my third coffee, but I haven’t had a sip of water?” and then you really feel it, and it shows up in your skin, and it shows up in dark circles under your eyes, and your digestion is all messed up, so I think water is the big secret and making sure that you remain hydrated throughout the day."

Other than a water bottle, her dressing table also has her favourite beauty product: Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay.

  • Christy Turlington's supermodel genes may have contributed to her ageless look. But the 48-year-old classic beauty also knows when to call in the big guns.

"Taking supplements brought my skin back to life," she revealed in an interview. "Like most women, my skin had become dull and thinner with age, but it has completely turned around now. I started taking Imedeen Time Perfection last June, and by September, I could already see a big difference. My fine lines and wrinkles seemed less of a worry, and my skin feels more supple. My hair’s also become thicker from taking them, but apparently that’s common and down to the proteins in the marine complex.’

  • Padma Lakshmi is 46 years old with abs that could inspire envy in a 24-year-old. Though the Top Chef host is professionally bound to taste everything on the show, leading to weight gain of anywhere between 5-7 kilos over the course of one season, she does have a detox solution that she warns is "revolting-tasting" but helps "keep the pipes clean." The concoction is made up of pure cranberry juice, green tea, vitamin C powder to give her a boost of vitamins and electrolytes, and a fibre powder (she prefers Metamucil). Padma drinks this about three to four times a day while filming Top Chef, otherwise reducing her intake to once a day. As for those abs, the mother-of-one earns her toned tum by spending an hour and a half in the gym switching between boxing, calisthenics, and walking at a high incline on a treadmill.
