Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are going to act together after 8 long years

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s first film may not be that memorable — remember Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke from 2000? — but the couple has pulled off some powerful roles in films that became major box office successes. Think: The 2005 film Bunty Aur Babli’s hit song Kajra Re that starred Aishwarya, Abhishek as well as his father, Amitabh Bachchan; Dhoom 2 (2006); Guru (2007). Eight films and 8 years later, the duo are ready for another film — Anurag Kashyap’s slice-of-life drama, Gulab Jamun.

Aishwarya confirmed the news in a recent interview, saying, “AB and I agreed to do Gulab Jamun. I told AB that he needs to decide what he wants to do after Manmarziyan.” The actor went on to say that they received the script a year and a half ago, but Abhishek wasn’t ready as he wanted to take a break. But after having completed shooting for Manmarziyan — which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival later this year — Abhishek decided it was worth it, especially because it’s a “beautiful script.” “The script had to be interesting if a real-life couple is coming together,” Aishwarya said.

Aishwarya’s upcoming film with Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, Fanney Khan, is all set to hit the screens on August 3.
