Our favourite moments from every celebrity wedding this year

We love celebrity weddings — there’s a beautiful bridal trousseau, lavish decor, guests who are dressed to impress, and of course, the couple themselves looking beyond happy. This year, we witnessed eight weddings, including a cross-cultural ceremony, an intimate destination wedding, and nuptials that were almost live streamed.

Take a look at the cutest celebrity wedding moments of 2018. These may be enough to make you believe in the magic of romance again.

Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja

While many Bollywood celebrities opted for intimate destination weddings closely guarding their looks, Sonam and Anand’s wedding in Mumbai was a typical Sikh one with lots of relatives, dancing and fun. Shortly after the ceremonies, videos — of the couple exchanging varmalas (garlands), of Anand tying a mangalsutra around Sonam’s neck surfaced and of Bollywood’s A-listers dancing at the reception — surfaced online. In fact, on the day of the reception, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh even went live on Instagram to show us that Bollywood parties the same way we do.

Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi

Just as we were recovering from the Sonam-Anand frenzy, Neha surprised fans on May 10 by announcing her marriage to Angad Bedi. With refreshing honesty, the couple later admitted that they went for a quick, hush hush wedding because Neha was pregnant. Today, the couple are happy parents to a baby girl, Mehr.

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh

“Are the photos out yet?” was a question that dominated our conversations on November 14 and 15 when Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh at Lake Como in Italy, in a super intimate ceremony. High security at the venue meant that no paparazzi images made it to our Instagram feeds, however the official photographs were worth the wait — Deepika and Ranveer looked radiant and completely in love. In keeping with their different cultures, the couple held two ceremonies – one as per Sindhi traditions and one with Konkani rituals.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

A whirlwind romance and engagement later, Priyanka and Nick got married in a fairy tale wedding in Jodhpur, setting all kinds of goals. The inter-faith couple held two ceremonies – a traditional Hindu one and a Christian one, officiated by Nick’s father (and pastor) Kevin, Priyanka’s wedding gown was designed by Ralph Lauren, who has only ever designed three wedding ensembles and all of them were for the designer’s family members. The Nickyanka wedding was full of romantic details like the guitar that was worked into Priyanka’s mehendi design (Nick is an award-winning musician) and Nick getting ‘Om Priyankaya Namah‘ in henna on his palm in Hindi.

Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal

One of the most lavish weddings we’ve seen in a while (or maybe ever), Isha and Anand made it official with pre-wedding ceremonies in Udaipur and a wedding at Antilla, Mumbai, on December 12. The highlight of their sangeet was a performance by Beyoncé, who rocked ensembles by Indian designers. The sangeet, which also featured performances by Shahrukh and Gauri Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, and Katrina Kaif, resembled a Bollywood awards show. For the reception, Isha wore a gold lehenga – the first lehenga ever to be created by Maison Valentino.

Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap

The duo, who have been dating for a decade now, got married in a private ceremony in Hyderabad on December 14. Saina and Parupalli announced their wedding on social media with a photograph, calling it the best match of their lives.They later hosted a reception which was attended by politicians and actors like Nagarjuna and Rakul Preet Singh.

Vinesh Phogat

On August 24, Vinesh got engaged to long-time boyfriend Somvir Rathi at the Delhi airport, upon her return from Jakarta where she bagged a historic gold at the Asian Games. It was also her birthday and this was the perfect gift. On December 13, the wrestler couple tied the knot and took an additional vow: “Beti bachao, beti padhao, beti khilao (save daughters, teach daughters and to let them play)”.

Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar

Age is just a number for 52-year-old Milind and 26-year-old Ankita who got married in Alibaug, on April 22, in the presence of close friends and family. The couple went on to plant a sapling for each guest who attended the wedding. They also exchanged vows in Spain, posing barefoot against a waterfall.
