Priyanka Chopra is bringing the feminist dating app Bumble to India

Priyanka Chopra might not be in the dating game anymore but she sure wants you to get into it. Last month, the Quantico star announced her foray into the world of tech investments, and now, her first venture is about to take off. She has invested in the dating app, Bumble, which pegs itself as a feminist platform, because only women can initiate the first conversation with matched male users. She’s acting as an advisor and helping Bumble expand to India.

Priyanka joined Whitney Wolfe Herd, founder and CEO of Bumble at a sit-down dinner in New York, to announce the launch of Bumble India. The app has three different modes — Bumble Bizz, Bumble BFF, and Bumble Date, for professional networking, friend-finding, and dating, respectively.

One year ago, I sat next to @priyankachopra at a dinner. I shared Bumble’s vision, and she grabbed my hand, and said “we have to take this to India, this such an important mission for the women of India.” Fast forward to last night, we got to celebrate in NYC with 40 incredible South Asian leaders who have made amazing moves in all aspects of their lives, as we get ready to head to India together later this year. Couldn’t have dreamed of a better partner, investor, and ally who is deeply committed to our entrance into the Indian market. Bumble India- here we come!

The dinner was attended by personalities like Jay Sean, Anita Dongre, Bibhu Mohapatra, Huma Abedin, and Anjula Acharia (Priyanka’s manager and an angel investor who encouraged Priyanka to turn into a tech investor) among others. It was held at the Gramercy Park Hotel, which was done up in an India-inspired theme (think: props like rickshaws and cycles). Guests sipped on cocktails as Bollywood music was played (including Priyanka’s popular songs, of course).

In a statement, Whitney explained how Priyanka came on board with Bumble: “We sat next to each other at another Bumble dinner and [Priyanka] was like, ‘Why don’t we take this to India?” She added, “We’re entering India as a full-fledged social network. We’re going in as the empowerment platform across the board.”

So, who’s ready to start swiping?
