These delicious gourmet restaurants are owned by your favourite stars

Given the dexterity that it takes to avoid the paps, we don’t blame celebrities for wanting a place to knock back a few drinks without having a long-range lens breathing down their neck. There’s also, of course, the added advantage of being able to invest some of that extra dough that they make on the job. A fact that Jacqueline Fernandez and her ilk are well-versed with.

If your weekend calendar is looking empty, book a table at these budding new eateries that know how to treat you like a celebrity  primarily, because they are owned by one.

Jacqueline Fernandez: Kaema Sutra, Colombo

Before you get any ideas about the name, ‘Kaema Sutra’ translates to the art of food in Jacqueline’s mother tongue. The actress teamed up with close friend Dharshan Munidasa, of Ministry of Crab fame, to open up her maiden venture. “I am extremely proud of my Sri Lankan heritage, and being part of a restaurant where the food is so closely connected to my roots is really exciting,” she exclaimed at the launch of the fine-dining space in 2014.

Its successful run since has inspired her to set up shop in Mumbai as well, and she will be opening the doors to her healthy eating joint in Bandra soon.

Virat Kohli: Nueva, New Delhi

If you’re hoping to bump into Indian cricket’s poster boy Virat Kohli, try his new gourmet haunt Nueva that headlines Michelin-starred chef Michael Swamy. Dedicated exclusively to authentic South American cuisine, the interiors are less in-your-face than Sachin Tendulkar’s eponymous joint with his autograph scrawled over the walls. And every piece of cutlery. And the napkins too.

The newly opened gastropub is a hot spot for celebrities in the area and even if you don’t run into Virat and his lady love Anushka, trust us, the Ceviche de Camarones, La Caja de Pinturas and Peruvian piscos are a worthy consolation.

Honorary mention: Shilpa Shetty Kundra

Shilpa’s IPL dreams hit a roadblock with the dissolution of her cricket team, Rajasthan Royals, but Mrs Kundra always had a popular watering hole to drown her sorrows in — Club Royalty was everything you’d expect from a nightclub based in a locality crawling with models and hipsters.

However, complaints from residents got the better of the discotheque and it pulled down the shutters last year. As a diametric opposite to her extravagant nightclub, Shilpa now reportedly plans on opening a chain of restaurants dedicated to her love for vegetarian food and fitness.
