First look: Gauri & Nainika Karan Home

Fashion designers Gauri and Nainika Karan are giving their dollhouse-appropriate, ladylike dresses exactly what they’ve been missing – dollhouse-like furniture, with their new three-storey store in Delhi, Gauri & Nainika Home.

It’s been in the making for a “couple of years”, says Nainika. “We went to the Maison & Objet furniture fair in Paris with my husband Amit [Vadehra] and we just fell in love with everything.” And ever since they decided to branch into interior design they took on a curator’s role: they roped in Tarun Vadehra for furniture pieces, tied up with Tasveer and Vadehra Art Gallery for art photographs, Klove for light design. “It’s an assortment of everything we love,” she adds, and that includes furniture from Singapore, urns from China, lights from Muradabad.

They’ve also taken a stab at furniture design (because, why not?). “One of my favourite pieces is a mirror that Gauri and I designed. It’s based on church window we saw in Zurich on a holiday,” says Nainika.

Safe to expect classic styles like chesterfield sofas and porter chairs. Their affinity for monochrome is visible in the black and white loveseats, and an all-white four-poster bed. Some industrial pieces – like maritime pendant lights and tripods – find their way in too.
