Hot address: Bodega Cantina-Y-Bar

Bodega, with its container-sheet-and-graffiti ambience, is Kolkata’s newest happy place. The menu covers Spanish, Mexican and Asian-inspired food. We took generous helpings of their laal maas (mutton) tacos, and criminally indulged in the rose macarons. It is served with a fresh rose petal resting delicately atop champagne caviar spilling over a perfect, open-faced rose-flavoured macaron. The team behind Bodega comes with excellent cred: Sagar Chandra, sous-chef, used to work at The Bombay Canteen and Sanjana Patel, of La Folie, does the pastry magic.

Navigating the bar menu? Start with The Great Gatsby, a dark-rum-based concoction served in a brass pineapple. Then move on to the Dia’ De Los Muertos, served in a glass skull – expect some flair bartending too.

Bodega is helmed by two well-travelled and enthusiastic entrepreneurs. Akashh Jaiswal brings to the table his comprehensive business acumen while Urvika Kanoi, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, has a successful gourmet catering company (The Food Studio) in her portfolio.

The two-storey, 2,700 sq ft space on Park Street – Kolkata’s prime epicurean district – reflects its young founders’ sensibilities in both menu and décor. The walls and floor are strewn with graffiti and the first floor has massive ink illustrations.

Head there for the warm, happy vibe and potent drinks on a Friday.

Cost Rs 3,000 approx (with alcohol) for two. 24, Ground Floor, Park Centre, Park Street Area, Kolkata. Tel: 033 30990550
