Can the world handle Jude Law playing Dumbledore?

Exorcising the memories of the trainwreck that was The Cursed Child is tough, but 2017 has already taken a step towards making it better. News has broken that Jude Law will be playing a young Albus Dumbeldore in the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them sequel.

Diehard Potterheads will have you know that Jude Law was, at one point, tipped as the hot favourite to play Remus Lupin in the movie franchise. The Warner Bros interns have been doing their research well, and mayhaps a wee bit late, but we finally have Law’s induction into the magical world of Harry Potter.

Set in the 1920s, the sequel will have him playing a young Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts. For those fretting how the love angle between Dumbledore and Grindelwald (played by Johnny Depp) will play out, calm your Merlin’s beard. The movie is reportedly going to be set a good two decades before the famous duel between the two powerful wizards.

So can our less-than-platonic feelings about Jude Law be reconciled with our veneration for the grandfatherly Albus Dumbledore? No matter that Law will be playing a younger version of the Hogwarts headmaster. It just seems so wrong, like having dirty thoughts about Santa…
