Nimish Shah launches Shift Home

Shift Home began as a happy accident
“It began as a happy mistake from one of our training exercises in the studio; the first sample was a beautiful accident. I insisted the office peon train in basic stitching; he had to start with straight stitches. I helped him patch together small pieces of waste white fabric; it started to look so rustic and beautiful that we continued doing it for a while, and I immediately knew what could come out of it. That just fast-tracked everything else.”

It’s quilts for now, but there’s more to come
“We are starting with a limited edition line of quilts. It will be followed by cushion covers and hand knitted laundry baskets, appliqué wall hangings and much more (around November).”

Don’t gloss over the details
“I’m using all end-of-line factory waste, precious recycled fabrics from our clothing studio – mostly cottons, organic flannels, linens and so forth. If you see these quilts back-lit you’ll notice the patchwork; in a white wash it looks quite mundane but for a keen eye this will be an immediate keeper.”

Expect easy whites
“It’s mostly white for now, we have a navy and biscuit colour in Toile du Jouy print – we will venture into ‘Shift’ colours soon, but the charm is in the surprise.”
