Here’s why The India Story festival should be on your yearly calendar

Kolkata is synonymous with rich cultural heritage, and it’s no wonder that the former capital was selected to exhibit contemporary art and design at The India Story festival. In its third edition now, the event is making a mark for itself as one of the leading fashion, art and culture exhibition, courtesy its line-up of talented curators from all over the country.

Spearheaded by Madhu Neotia, initiator and managing trustee of Neotia Arts Trust, and Abhilasha Sethia, co-initiator and trustee of Neotia Arts Trust, who are joined by aesthetes like Swapan Seth, Shantanu Moitra, Sanjay Garg, Anahita Kayan among others, the idea behind the India Story is simple — to put together an exposition of art and design that has been crafted in India.

Held at Swabhumi Heritage Park, the third edition’s theme was to Discover The Undiscovered, which featured a mélange of renowned fashion and jewellery designers from the likes of Anita Dongre, Suket Dhir, Antar-Agni and Nimai as well as niche designers like Son of a Noble: SNOB and Ritu Jain Singh. Designer home décor wasn’t too far away — names like Freedom Tree, Nira’s Ceramics and Klove kept the space happy with their unique offerings.

For art enthusiasts, the myriad of art installations and paintings scattered over the venue proved to be a sight for sore eyes. The Elephant Parade was one such installation that stood out with its colourful and decorative designs.

For lovers of food and drinks, Eat Good Food, 8th Day Café and Bakery and TG by Tanvi Ghai supplied delectable eateries, while Kolkata’s famous brewery The Grid provided the much-needed craft beers. Instead of the cacophony you’d expect in a busy festival, DJs like Anish Sood and Vicky and Team Myx kept the atmosphere genial with their upbeat songs.

Art, fashion, food, music, culture — The India Story is where you expect it all under one roof.
