  • Bibhu Mohapatra

Born in Orissa before finding success in New York, Bibhu Mohapatra’s work heavily references the country of his origin, whether in his colour palette or hand-woven fabrics. New York's well-heeled enjoy the attention the designer lavishes on them in his private atelier, and the fact that none of his designs scream 'expensive label'. The soft-spoken designer is now favourite with celebrities from Michelle Obama to Frieda Pinto.

  • Yanina Fashion

Moscow native Yulia Yanina opened her eponymous fashion house in 1993, immediately attracting the wives and daughters of Russian oligarchs with her wispy creations pulled straight from the pages of a Grimm Brothers' novel. A team of 30 seamstresses and 20 embroiderers work their magic over ballgowns that will eventually find their way to aristocrats and celebrities from Lady Gaga and Eva Longoria to Sonam and Jacqueline Fernandez.

Born in Malaysia and trained in London at the legendary Central Saint Martins fashion school, Self-Portrait is the brainchild of designer Han Chong.
