• Pakistan’s best new designers

    by Anam Mansuri

A crop of new designers from across the border has caught our eye. This young group of designers is making waves back home, mixing and matching everything we love about traditional Pakistani fashion with global trends and their own unique voice, to produce some of the edgiest fashion in the sub-continent today.  Here are four of our favourite budding stars:

If you like Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla…you’ll love Misha Lakhani

Misha Lakhani’s first few collections have been intricate and regal, chock-full of old-world charm, with a dash of modernity. She describes her aesthetic as one with a “grown up bohemian vibe”, which has fast become popular all over the country. Her collections are a fusion of textiles and vintage craftsmanship.

A recent entrant in the Pakistani fashion world, Rashid has been mixing up traditional fabrics and hand embroidery with fun new cuts. Her quilted jackets and crop tops have been an immediate hit with celebrities and fashionistas all over Pakistan.

This new kid on the block has infused some serious “cool” into the Pakistani fashion scene. A graduate of the Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design, Ali’s strength is mixing indigenous patterns and local hand embroidery in innovative ways to make a bold impression.

  • If you like Anamika Khanna…you’ll love Umaima Mustufa

Not even a year old, Umaima Mustufa’s eponymous label is already making waves. Each and every one of her carefully constructed, vintage-inspired pieces are a marriage of a range of fabrics and textures – from thick metal chains to carefully-shredded chiffon patches. Every clothing item is a well thought out piece of art.
