When it comes to saris, you know you can’t ever have enough. If you’ve been itching to test-drive the innovative drapes and silhouettes observed at the recently concluded Lakmé Fashion Week, concept store Good Earth has some good news.
Ensuring that the sustainable movement lives on beyond its reserved day-long extravaganza at Lakmé Fashion Week, Good Earth is hosting ‘Forvever Sari’, a three-day multi-designer sari preview starting today. The designer list reads off all our favourite names: Akaaro, Anavila, Anjul Bhandari, Ashdeen, Eka, Péro, Raw Mango and Good Earth Sustain.
Founder Anita Lal admits that the showcase is more for her than anything else. “I never really needed a reason or an occasion to wear saris. Joining the lively conversation around its revival, we wanted to celebrate the sari as a sustainable Indian garment with its modern renditions of fabrics, crafts, weaves and drapes,” she explains.
The rest fell together easily, but Lal worked on ensuring that the diversity of Indian crafts was represented in the work of the participating designers. Subsequently, embroidery forms from chikankari to Parsi gara; hand block printing, jamdani weaving technique and laborious techniques of natural dyeing have all found a spot in the line-up. “These bright designers have all started their journey with a deep-seated commitment to reviving the sari. Creating it in contemporary, offbeat fabrics, theys have repurposed it as a garment for everyday wear, one that is fuss-free, versatile and elegant,” she adds.
The best bit? You can add these designer garments to your wardrobe starting Rs 15,000 onwards. Salary day isn’t all that far away, so go ahead and treat yourself. We promise we won’t tell.
