The Dior Fall 2023 Mumbai Presentation Was A Fitting Homage Set Against A Majestic Backdrop

IPS BANNER

The Dior Fall 2023 fashion show was a stunning display of Indian craftsmanship, featuring intricate designs paying tribute to Indian textile traditions. The French luxury fashion house Dior collaborated with Mumbai’s Chanakya School of Craft, which supports and empowers local women by teaching them hand embroidery and other techniques to become master craftswomen. This year-long partnership reflects Dior’s commitment to celebrating the transmission and beauty of Indian artisanship, and this exchange of skills and knowledge transcends borders and epochs.

The show was held at an iconic venue, surrounded by the Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, which made it the perfect venue for such a legendary event.

The celebrities in attendance included the iconic Rekhajii as well as Bollywood actresses Sonam Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. Maisie Williams, Cara Delevingne, Simone Ashley from Bridgerton, and many more flew in to witness the pristine show.

Spotlight On The Stars

Sonam Kapoor was dressed in her Dior best, an all pink ensemble and a matching pink coat styled with traditional jewels.

The power couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli were seen in a acid yellow dress and an olive green suit respectively – all from Dior.

Cara Delevinge wore a multicoloured kimono style dress by Dior.

Bridgerton star Simone Ashley opted for an elegant white sleeveless gown from Dior.

Let’s not forget the heart and soul behind the show. Chiuri has long been an ardent supporter of the Chanakya School of Craft since its founding in 2017, which empowers Indian women by teaching them valuable skills like hand embroidery. And the students’ contribution to the show were absolutely breathtaking.

The collection was all about celebrating the beauty of Indian savoir-faire and showcasing it to the world in a way that transcends borders and brings art and craft together. What a magical collaboration, from Mumbai to Paris and beyond!

Traditional Indian cuts, sari-inspired straight skirts, and sophisticated evening coats were all embodied by a colour-block sequence dedicated to silks in shades of green, yellow, pink, and purple in homage to Marc Bohan. This collection was a remarkable sartorial genealogy defined by various heritages and fashion cultures.

And when mentioning the importance of Indian heritage, we for sure cannot miss to talk about the makeup and the beauty looks from the show. The dark eye kohl was a wonderful showcase of traditional Indian beauty techniques, giving the entire look a dramatic touch, especially with the vintage finger waves.

Rounding up everything was the ambience. Everyone was spellbound by the soulful music of tabla artist Anuradha Pal. The catwalk was bordered with carpets of vivid marigolds and included its own little arch draped with a patchwork of textiles, a tribute to toran, a decorative custom of wall hangings that are suspended at the entrance to Indian houses
