The all new Ferragamo is a harbinger of inventiveness to the runway. While already boasting of a devoted following amongst the celebrities wearing his creations, Maximilian Davis balances the scales without diminishing the classic touch of Ferragamo. Recalibrating the native landscape of the Italian luxury goods brand, Davis’ able tutelage honours Ferragamo’s dedication to timeless elegance.

At the Milan Fashion Week for the FW 23 collection, we saw guests such as Uma Thurman, Hunter Schafer, and NCT’s Lee Jeno who brought the Hollywood vibe to the shows.

Maximilian Davis has drawn inspiration from Hollywood – Ferragamo’s second home for Fall/Winter 2023, with the 1950s serving as potent front to be immortalised by the stars.

“It’s how Ferragamo started, creating shoes for movies in the 1930s, and that grew into building partnerships with movie stars like Sophia Loren and Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s,” recalls Davis. “I was interested in using their glamour and beauty, as well as their style of dressing, as a reference, but thinking at how we might make it feel modern for today.”

In a fitting of the ode to the era of the 50s, Davis plays with classic sensibilities introducing pops of colour and disruptive sharply sliced suiting. Inspired by a biker’s wardrobe, coated metallic denims, white viscose tanks and brogues become a recurring motif.

The designs presented were an a amalgamation of mid-century elements mixed with a modern touch. Imbued with the linear precision that sums up Davis’ vision – a ball skirt finds an upgrade with optic white nylon; a cocoon cut adopted from fifties couture is applied to a cropped technical bomber and the shirting elevates a classic.

With a more refined vision and an adept backing courtesy Davis’ impressive academic and professional experience, the FW’23 collection ushers a new era for Ferragamo.
