Saiyami Kher serves up fresh running inspiration at the adidas UltraBoost X launch

She may have played a royal princess in Mirzya, but Saiyami Kher in real life is far from a damsel sitting pretty, waiting for her manicure to dry. Further proof to that end was provided when the adidas ambassador led the pack at the launch of the hot new UltraBoost X.

And it was no ordinary launch either. A group of 40 women influencers from different fields (ranging from a mother of a nine-year-old to a DJ) were spirited away in a speedboat to Radisson Blu, Alibaug. After being kitted out in exclusive adidas gear, we laced up in a pair of the UltraBoost X, hot off the shelves.

The unique silhouette of the shoe comes from the adaptive arch that allows for a sculpted fit, and makes it easier than slipping on a pair of socks. Putting the responsive cushioning to the test, we tackled the Kankeshwar Temple steps, a seven kilometre climb uphill and back. The full length Boost midsole offers best energy return per footstrike, or to put it simply, least energy lost while running.

adidas has put its money where its mouth is; scaling the 600-odd steps uphill came easy with the well-adjusted arch, but the UltraBoost X truly earned its stripes by providing a superior grip on the rocky terrain on the trek back down.

A passionate runner herself, Saiyami made short work of the trek, rosy-cheeked from her recent sojourn in San Francisco where she clocked in a half-marathon. Her top running advice for beginners? “Never try to go it alone. Find some friends who won’t let you slack beyond that first adrenalin rush. My first love is sport, and the energy of women – pushing each other, stronger together – is to be seen to be believed.”

Fuelled by our trek, the festivities continued the next morning with an early morning beach run where we test drove the shoes on a flat, sandy terrain. Divided into teams for a relay, Saiyami flagged off the quick sprint on the beach. Quick note: The Continental rubber outsole provides maximum traction and a superior grip in wet and dry conditions.

If you are a runner, the adidas UltraBoost X is the best investment you’ll make this year. If you haven’t been able to bite the bullet, this pair will make your initiation so much easier.
