December brings with it magic! Filled with love, togetherness and hope— the holiday season beckons you to shake off the troubles of yesterday and embrace unconditional joy. With brands and retailers all over the world decking their halls to welcome the swarm of shoppers, there’s no denying that Christmas 2021 is going to be a season to be jolly. Recovering from the vagaries of the pandemic, this year we’re seeing themes centred around everything from old Hollywood glamour to the magic of Harry Potter and more. Take a festive world tour with us as you check out some of our favourite Christmas windows of 2021:
1. Bergdorf Goodman
Featuring visually arresting vignettes that depict joyous moments frozen in time, this year’s theme, ‘The Present Moment’ bursts with exquisite details and whimsical characters living for the moment and in the moment.
2. Bloomingdales New York
Soak up the festive joy with Bloomingdale’s windows inspired by their holiday campaign ‘Give Happy’. Each of the store’s six windows explodes with vibrant colours and whimsical installations that aim to turn up the cheer and bring a smile to their customer’s faces.
3. Dior
Festooned with illuminated recreations of Monsieur Dior’s star— a symbol of optimism and good luck, Dior’s facades around the world are brightening up dark times.
4. Selfridges London
‘Christmas of Dreams’ is Selfridges’ theme this year. Showcasing creative references from 1930’s Hollywood and 1950’s technicolour film musicals, the windows feature a surreal set design coupled with Christmas swans, talking Christmas trees and a choir of angels.
5. Harrods London
Harrods’ ‘Witness a Spectacle’ windows feature items by luxury brands including Miu Miu, Bvlgari and Carolina Herrera on a spectacular banquet table adorned with super-sized gourmet foods like a giant ruby lobster and a tower of swirling silver macarons in a true Christmas-feast-like fashion.
6. Saks Fifth Avenue
In support of the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance that seeks to empower adolescent girls around the world through education, Saks Fifth Avenue invited Michelle Obama to unveil their annual holiday decorations. The six iconic Fifth Avenue windows are “inspired by the theme of reconnecting with family and loved ones during the holiday season.”
7. Galeries Lafayette Paris
Watch the toys of Galeries Lafayette Paris come to life and set out in Santa’s sleigh for a crazy ride. As part of their ‘1, 2, 3 Christmas!’ theme this year, 11 animated scenes made in partnership with the Atelier Bournillat will take you on a new Christmas adventure.
8. Liberty London
This year Liberty’s holiday decor is inspired by the theme of sending joy to friends and family. This is translated as a display of bespoke letters swirling around whimsical hot air balloons and cogs stuffed with presents.
9. Hamleys
Toy shop Hamleys unveiled its Christmas windows featuring scenes from both Harry Potter and Jurassic Park, filled with toys from both blockbusters that are set to be big sellers this year.
10. Harvey Nichols
‘Let there be light’ says Harvey Nichols’ holiday window displays. Featuring modern stained glass panels reflecting a pattern of Christmas-coloured hues, the dancefloor pavement has garnered much attention from passers-by as a great selfie spot.
