Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla have returned to the runway, and how! The designers are all set to open Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015 with their show titled ‘Jawani Jaaneman’. And if we had to describe it in a word it’s: retro. Even the playlist is in sync; it goes from ‘Funky Town’ to ‘Jawani Jaaneman’.
Designer Sandeep Khosla tell us, “It’s a very different line for us. We’re not doing bridal. It’s what you would wear to one of the many pre-wedding functions.” As they look back at the ‘70s and ‘80s, the emphasis is on shimmery and slinky pieces. They even reference some of their own creations. Like the gold cat suit designed for Parveen Babi in Namak Halaal, while working closely with costume designer Xerxes Bhatena. The colour palette goes from white and neutral to ash grey – fittingly, there are only three black looks. “All the pops of colour come from the embellishments and embroidery,” Khosla reveals.
