On February 26, ELLE India hosted its first ever ELLEvateWomen event, dedicated to a cause we hold very close to our hearts—maternal health. The event, held in association with Kama Ayurveda, brought together a stellar panel of stalwarts who are championing the cause of making safe and equitable motherhood accessible to all. ELLEvateWomen, held at the beautiful The Manor in New Delhi, was also dedicated to celebrating our December 2019 cover star, supermodel and activist Christy Turlington Burns and her organisation Every Mother Counts, which has led and pioneered conversations on safe pregnancy around the world. Accompanying her on the panel were actor Gul Panag, Dr Munjaal Kapadia, human rights activist Jayashree Satpute, and Dr. VR Vivekananda, in conversation with ELLE India’s Editor-in-Chief, Supriya Dravid.
Our woman of the evening, Christy Turlington Burns, shared her experience of motherhood and what moved her to start Every Mother Counts back in 2010. The organisation now operates in six countries around the world. Gul Panag brought to attention the societal expectations and pressures of motherhood, while Dr. V.R. Vivekananda shared with the audience Ayurvedic remedies and wellness rituals that can benefit mothers both pre and postpartum. Dr Munjaal Kapadia drew applauses as he laid down facts about when, how, and why one should become a mother, and it all pointed towards one direction—if you choose to be; Jayashree Satpute shared her experiences of dealing with new mothers and the rights and laws they should be aware of.

The sumptuous food by The Manor’s In-Q became a talking point as guests indulged in conversation, photo sessions, and laughter galore.
Floral arrangements by Anu Rani made sure the venue looked just as good as it felt.
