Shantanu & Nikhil celebrate 20 years in fashion with a new label

When it comes to drapes and silhouettes, no one does it like design maestros Shantanu & Nikhil. A glance of their pieces and you’ll know the couture designers are heavily inspired by vintage India. Their creative vision is all about mixing the traditional Indian aesthetic with contemporary sensibilities. Or to state it simply, their designs are exactly what fits the bill for millennials.

This year the designer duo complete two decades in the industry and they are marking this 20-year milestone with something new. No, it’s not a fresh, new collection sitting pretty and waiting to be sent down the runway in the post-pandemic world. Make way for S&N by Shantanu & Nikhil: a new bridge-to-luxury ready-to-wear brand which celebrates Indian heritage with global spunk and speaks the sartorial language of silhouettes, sharp tailoring and minimalism. The label intends to be the voice of self-aware millennials who are always on the lookout for a light, composed look whether it’s for a cocktail, a family get-together or even a full-fledged wedding look.

Keeping its iconic elements like draping and clean silhouettes at the core, S&N will showcase strong military-chic influences, gender-fluidity and embroidery with new-age detailing. Think an assortment of badges, tapes, buttons and colours weaved together into shirts, kurtas, bandhgala jackets, blazers, sherwanis, saree gowns, drape-infused waistcoats, trousers and more.

“This brand was subconsciously born in 2016 when we showcased our first patriotic chic line The Cabinet Mission. What followed was a series of nostalgia meets modernity kind of storytelling on the runways that pretty much set the new direction for Shantanu & Nikhil as a brand from there on. We have only just given it an identity in 2020 and carved it out from the couture umbrella and democratised it through functionality and accessibility,” says Shantanu Mehra, CEO and Co-Founder of the brand.

S&N is set to launch both, online and offline. The brand will showcase its debut collection The March at its stores in DLF Promenade and DLF Avenue in New Delhi. Here’s a sneak peek into it:
