Unless you’ve been living under a pebble, (who can even afford a rock after demonetisation?) you’ll recall Brit comedian John Oliver making a mysterious trip to India two months ago. Turns out, he was here to solicit the sage advice of the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, himself.
In keeping with this pledge to not make 2017 all about Donald Trump, (good luck holding on to that one; we hear his travel ban on immigrants from Muslim-majority countries is back in place) Oliver threw the unrest in Tibet under his satirical microscope. Help was needed to navigate this particular quagmire, so of course, he hopped onto a plane to India where the 81-year-old Dalai Lama currently lives in exile. His prep for the interview concluded with him noting, “A sort of a cross between a pope and president—or popesident, if you will. (But you shouldn’t, so please don’t.)” And his final thoughts? “Dalai Lama is the original woke bae.”
