We’d have thought that Katrina Kaif and Jacqueline Fernandez’s flawless skin was a gift from a particularly benevolent godmother, but in the words of the wise, wise Britney Spears, maintaining that glow means that ‘you gotta work, b*tch.’
Instagram newbie Katrina clued us into just how much work goes into keeping that peaches-and-cream glow in place by, get this, dunking her face in a vat of icy water. Shake off the Ice Bucket Challenge ghosts though, because she isn’t the only one. Make-up artist to the stars Namrata Soni can confirm that Jacqueline’s go-to home remedy is dabbing her face with freezing water.
So what are they hoping to achieve here, apart from the mother of all colds? Smaller pores and buttery smooth skin, for starters. Our on-call dermatologist Dr. Kiran Lohia explains, “Ice cold water is highly effective at reducing redness and closing pores, which in turn tightens the skin. The freezing temperature induces vasoconstriction of the blood vessels and pores.”
“It basically means that the vessels become smaller, so your skin becomes smoother and less red.”
The rudimentary way to get this done would be to shove a bowl of water in the freezer, remove it just before it reaches freezing point, and ask your sibling to manually hold you down while you dunk your face in – 10 seconds should do the trick. But if you’re looking to take things professional, Dr Lohia suggests asking your dermat to recommend a good cyrofacial. “The treatment hyper-cools the skin to induce a radiant glow; smoothening and tightening the pores along the way,” she explains.
