Carla Fendi, the honorary President of one of the most lauded fashion houses in modern history, has passed away at the age of 79. The Italian philanthropist, whose family owned Fendi until 1999 when they sold it to LVMH, was noted for having transformed the label into the modern force it’s known to be.
According to an AP report, Carla succumbed to a long illness.
Carla, along with her four sisters, was responsible for hiring Karl Lagerfeld to take over creative direction of the company in 1965. Fifty-two years later, Lagerfeld remains the artistic director of the brand.
