In a world dominated by fashion that’s restrictive — think: limited clothing sizes; lack of styles for plus-size fashion — some brands are paving the way for universality. Fluidity in fashion is one of the main objectives that designer Monisha Jaising and Shweta Bachchan Nanda’s newest luxury prêt label MxS offers, with designs that cater to women of all ages and sizes.
“The brand believes that to pigeonhole a woman is taking away from her right of expression. A woman should not be restricted by her age, and she should be given the opportunity to wear what appeals to her,” believes Monisha. MxS caters to sizes ranging from XS to 3XL, and the capsule collection has been designed keeping in mind one universal truth — every daughter borrows from her mother’s wardrobe (and vice versa). “My daughter Navya is constantly dipping into my closet and making off with my clothes, that I may add, I never see again. Age fluid fashion means I can repay the favour,” says Shweta, adding that their sartorial sensibilities are quite alike. “Just a major size difference,” she laughs.
While MxS takes inspiration from street fashion, pop culture, travel and films, the first collection (all set to launch in September) features elements of youth, hip-hop, romance and funk. Expect to see a lot of Shweta’s personal style — that she describes as casual and laidback — as well as Monisha’s take on resort wear and sportswear. Sequinned rainbow-striped track pants, statement luxe sweatshirts with quirky slogans, leather skirts inspired by graffiti art are just some of the label’s offerings. The collection includes a full spectrum of colours — from sorbet pastels to a riot of acid colours — and fabrics like bonded satin organza, metallic lamè, chainmail, metallic velvet and satin georgette, featuring permanent pleating, hand-pleating techniques, sequinned embroideries and more.
With a price point ranging between Rs 8,000 to Rs 70,000, MxS aims to provide you with statement ensembles that will last. Shop the collection here.
