5 Sustainable Initiatives By The Impact Hub At Lakmé Fashion Week In Partnership With FDCI

Sustainable

It’s no news that the fashion industry is rife with incessant greenwashing, woeful promises of going sustainable & a mighty disregard for a legitimate route of waste disposal. And those holding the high ground haven’t been of much help (yet). So, to take matters into their own hands, many up & coming creatives, policy makers & young entrepreneurs have started carving their own paths & going the sustainable way for a better tomorrow.

The recently concluded Lakmé Fashion Week hosted a space titled ‘The Impact Hub’ & showcased 5 installations revealing innovative sustainable solutions for the climate change quandary. Hallmarking the Woolmark Company’s partnership with Lakmé Fashion Week, FDCI and RISE Worldwide, the hub’s interesting art-gallery like presentation brought to our attention, the many advancements in textile innovation, recycling, business innovation, packaging and crafts.

Catered to serve the backbone of our country’s thriving agriculture business, Craste works towards addressing crop waste management by converting it into packaging. This also helps farmers gain a minor side income, alongside the reduction in crop burning which may have lead to more pollution otherwise.

Humanity Centered Design

Relove

Having entered the Impact Hub premises, one thing that caught our eye early on was the vastly noticeable installation by Relove. It was a sphere of sorts (resembling our earth), stacked with multiple discarded clothes – one that pointed towards the dumping ground our planet is on the verge of becoming.

About the brand, Relove is a resale model which manages the entire peer to peer resale process from technology integration, listing approvals, shipping, communication & traceability. And with the best brands in the industry.

200 Million Artisans

Fleather

Sustainable

Vegan leather is cool, but have you heard of leather made out of flowers? Felicitated by PETA India and adopted by the PVH Corporation, Phool.co by Fleather is the next gen sustainable alternative to leather made from the flower waste found in river Ganga, after being dumped from temples and mosques. Way to go.
