Baroda-based artist Rekha Rodwittiya’s works often explore the concepts of femininity and motherhood and question the patriarchy. The feminist celebrates turning sixty with a solo show at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai. The ongoing show, Rekha@Sixty: Transient Worlds of Belonging, displays works that look back on her physical and spiritual journey. It also features a series of previously unseen multi-media works.

Strong women with piercing gazes take the centre stage in this show, too. The imagery also includes ordinary objects such as a pair of scissors, a sewing machine, lock and keys, birds and animals like butterflies and fish. “Images from everyday life that inhabit my work are always subtexts that act as indicators to reveal the territory of more detailed enquiries. The objects I use establish my relationship with the world at large,” says Rekha in a statement.
Apart from her solo show, the celebrated artist has also curated an exhibition, Four Conversations in the Room, at the Sakshi Salon (part of the same gallery space). It displays artworks by Ankush Safaya, Kim Seola, N Divya and Sonatina Mendes — four contemporaries who have been associated with The Collective Studio Baroda, run by Rekha and Surendran Nair.
