Along the lines of boutique beauty brands that produce small batches of organic, high-quality products, like Lisa Haydon’s Naked or Purearth, is a new collection by Janice Pariat. The Shillong-based author of Boats on Land and Seahorse enters the beauty space with Real Love, a range of skincare products. It all started when Pariat tried to fix a common frustration. “I grew tired of purchasing exceedingly more expensive cosmetic products that didn’t seem to help clear, brighten, soften my skin. I switched to cleaning my face solely with raw honey, and (when having used make-up), with an oil cleansing treatment, and moisturising only with jojoba oil. There was immediate effect—my skin felt lighter, like it could breathe.” The products were so popular with friends and family that Pariat saw a niche.
This organic and handmade range of soaps and ‘lotion bars’ use not extracts, but the real ingredients, whether it’s shea butter, natural beeswax and goats’ milk or the essential oils of coconut, almond and tea tree. The lotion bars are solidified moisturisers. To use, warm a bar with your hands and pat your palms all over yourself. Your morning routine just got a shot of superfoods.
Real Love’s line includes a soap, Real Breakfast (with goats’ milk, oats, raw honey, cinnamon), the lotion bar Real Bliss (shea butter, natural beeswax, coconut oil, sweet orange, honey) and a beard oil, Real Zest, which has the essential oils of coconut, jojoba, sweet almond, peppermint, tea tree and sweet orange.
The products are priced between Rs 100 and Rs 350 and you can order yours by writing to realloveorders@gmail.com
