Alright sneaker-heads, here is your moment to save the world one step at a time. If you’re anything like me (obsessed with good pair of sneakers among other things) and think that it can’t get better than your favorite white sneakers, then adidas is here to give you one more reason to love them. They are introducing their cool, classic, and most importantly – sustainable collection which will be available soon!

They gave us a sneak peek of its eco-conscious, ‘ORIGINALS BY PARLEY’ collection paired with Antar-Agni and Khanijo at FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week. It is about time when fashion shows made a comeback in the physical world after two years of virtual meet and greet. On the ‘Sustainable Fashion Day’ of this year’s LFW, adidas sure made a statement on the runway with its innovative new line of black and white ocean plastic recycled shoes. They definitely pulled out all the stops and had none other than Shruti Hassan donning their uber-cool kicks as the show-stopper stunning everyone including us.

Thinking outside the Shoebox

The three stripes as we know have an army of customers across the globe who swear by their line of products, and adidas is defining itself to inspire the generations to come, and prove that it is easy to go green and also look good while doing so. In collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, they’re on the mission to end plastic waste. Parley is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to protecting the oceans with creativity and innovation. Needless to say, these organizations were a match made in heaven, and they have created these beautiful high-performance products to save the world (literally).

How are they doing so? Each sneaker in the collection which is already timeless in its own right has been made with a yarn that contains at least 50% Parley Ocean Plastic, intercepted on remote islands, beaches, coastal communities, and shorelines, preventing it from polluting our oceans. The other 50% of the yarn is recycled polyester. And if that is not great enough, the collection will also include iconic sneaker franchises such as Nizza Hi, Nizza Lo, Superstar, Stan Smith, ZX 8000, Forum Mid, Forum Low, and NMD_R1, as well as two women’s exclusives: the Forum Bold W and Nizza Platform W.

adidas as a brand, roots for sustainability, and we root for adidas!

The preview in the LFW spoke about the brand’s commitment to its mission to help end plastic waste. Adding more about this, Sunil Gupta, Senior Director, Brand adidas, India said, “We are extremely excited to be partnering with FDCI & Lakmé Fashion Week for their ‘Sustainable Fashion Day’ to preview one of our most remarkable and progressive footwear collections.

“Parley for the Oceans has been a longstanding global partner in our mission to ‘End Plastic Waste’, and it is the commitment to this mission that has resulted in some of the most innovative and sustainable adidas sports products. With the ‘adidas Originals by Parley’ collection, we have come together to bring back a collection of the most iconic sneakers of all times in an eco-friendly and sustainable avatar, re-imagined for a better tomorrow.”

In case you didn’t know already, the show was a hit.

The cool and comfortable adidas Originals rode the ramp with Antar Agni and Khanijo. The Khanijo collection was inspired by the world of circus, as a metaphor for the never-ending show that is life. Their creations celebrated Indian craftsmanship in an artful streetwear collection. While Antar Agni’s showcase was in essence of liberation or ‘Moksha’ as Ujjwal Dubey, (founder of Antar Agni) likes to call it. It presented a new expression of the brand’s design aesthetic in a story of the paradoxes of minimalism and maximalism. Together they gave their audience a show to remember.
