10 seriously satisfying peel-off face masks

Slimy but satisfying

You only have to spend five minutes on Instagram to see that a (slightly gruesome) new skincare trend has taken centre stage… Incredibly fun and seriously satisfying, peel-off face masks have gained traction amongst beauty obsessives for the way that they lift away grime, nourish skin with nutrients and leave complexions feeling softer than ever.

And according to consultant dermatologist and British Skin Foundation spokesperson, Dr Anjali Mahto, they have a useful part to play in acne-prone skin, alleviating oiliness and purging pores – especially if they contain ingredients like charcoal, clay and glycolic acid.

Check out our edit of the best peel-off face masks guaranteed to give you a gorgeous glow, without all of the wincing, because we’ve all seen those YouTube videos, and ouch.

10 peel off masks to make you glow:

Mask Tube, Rs 1,174, BLAQ

Thanks to those wince-inducing YouTube videos, black peel-off masks have been given a bad rap in skincare, but Blaq has got to be one of the gentlest, and we can vouch for that! The activated charcoal works like a magnet to bind itself to make-up, excess oil, bacteria and pollution.

Prevage city smart double action peel off mask, Rs 5,033, Elizabeth Arden

If you're a city dweller looking to pollution proof your skin, Elizabeth Arden is a great product to start with. Not only does it lift deep-seated grime when peeled away, but it is packed with antioxidants that act like armour on the skin, so free radicals bounce right off. Pricey, but worth it.

Mask a-peel radiance revealing rubberising mask, Rs 1,677, Bliss

Thanks to the skin-brightening vitamin C, you can really feel this mask working. It creates a gummy layer on the face which can be peeled away in sections after twenty minutes. The results? Baby soft skin. Get it at Feel Unique

Deep cleansing mask, Rs 5,032, Omorovicza

A cocktail of skin-perfecting ingredients like glycerin to soften and vitamin E to moisturise and protect from free radicals makes Omorovicza face mask a must-have. Paint it on with a clean, flat foundation brush to avoid transmitting any bacteria from your fingers into the product and peel it off after ten minutes. Don't forget to rinse your face with lukewarm water to get rid of any stragglers.

Gravity mud firming treatment, Rs 3,279, Glamglow

Probably the snazziest peel-off mask around, GLAMGLOW morphs into a metallic sheen on contact with skin - but it's the after effects that has everyone raving about it. Hyaluronic acid irons away fine lines while red algae and liquorice extract firm and tone.

Sonic blue gravity mud firming treatment, Rs 1,174, Glamgldw

OK, it might be cheating to throw two GLAMGLOW products into the mix, but this Sonic-inspired offering is seriously fun. When drying, the bright blue mask resembles something like iridescent space-age rubber - it's the only way to describe it! It's really easy to peel off, and like the original, skin feels so smooth and supple.

Ginseng peel off mask, Rs 2,096, Origins

The hero ingredient in Origins' copper coloured face mask is caffeine, which gives lacklustre skin a brightening boost that's guaranteed to last longer than the effects of your 8am double-shot espresso.

Mermaid marine peel off mask, Rs 838, Nugg

Nope, this isn't a tub of organic peanut butter. It may not look like much, but Nugg's rubbery peel-off mask feels like a breath of cool air upon tight and puffy skin, and it's all thanks to the sea silt and tea tree. Once peeled off, skin feels matte and squeaky clean - so satisfying.

Skincare black peel off mask, Rs 2,180, JORGOBÉ

Most masks targeted at blasting blackheads and blocked pores can be a nightmare to get off - but not JORGOBÉ. Kaolin clay, witch hazel and charcoal whip off sebum and dead cells without reducing you to tears. Spot prone skin? Stockpile it.

Glamoroxy snake mask, Rs 5,702, Rodial

With dipeptides and liquorice extract, Rodial peel off face mask is basically botox in a tube. Together, they instantly plump and tone tired looking skin, while the addition of French clay lifts grime and excess oil.
