Now, it’s all a distant memory. But while we’re on the topic of the past, here’s another blast: Within days of the surprise breakup, Selena was seen frolicking and bike-riding in what appears to be complete and utter bliss with on-again, off-again ex-flame Justin Bieber.

The phenomenon of getting back together with an ex is nothing new in celebritydom. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor’s tumultuous relationship was the original poster child for ongoing relationship drama.
Even the royals aren’t immune—Kate Middleton and Prince William broke up for three months before reconciling and ultimately getting married.
What once garnered multiple eye-rolls and pained sighs, the act of getting back together with your ex is suddenly very on point—in fact, it’s downright celebrated.
So what on earth is going on?
Is our love of nostalgia permeating from fashion trends and TV shows into our actual love lives? Or is it that young people—despite what dating app executives will tell you—don’t actually subscribe to the idea that everyone is, when it boils down to it, replaceable…as much as once thought?
Whether this is just a series of coincidences or part of a larger shift in our attitudes towards relationships (surprisingly, although it is more acceptable to do so, divorce rates among millennials are actually going down) is still up for debate.
If anything, two old flames reuniting when they work in an industry filled with attractive, wealthy and charismatic people (where stars tend to move on very fast) is pretty endearing, and dare we say it…romantic.
One thing’s for sure…everything old is new again—and apparently, that includes your ex.
