After a hiatus of almost 2 years, New York Fashion Week is back with in-person action for Spring/Summer 2022. Although there’s limited seating and the coveted fashion guest are masked at all times, there’s something about the spirit of physical shows that cannot be traded for a virtual film. This season, apart from the well-known names like Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung and Proenza Schouler returning to the roaster, there’s a splurge of new talent making a debut. Each representing fashion with a unique voice, deserving their spot in the limelight. Here’s our pick of the 4 new labels that showcased impact-worthy collections this season and look promising for the future.

1.  Peter Do

NYFW

Peter Do launched his eponymous label in 2018, before he ventured out on his own, he worked under the tutelage of Pheobe Philo at Céline. The designer found admirers for his sharp tailoring and crisp suiting even before his collection hit the runway. From Zendaya to Anya Taylor Joy, the label’s bespoke ensembles have been spotted on multiple fashion icons. With its NYFW Spring/Summer 2022 debut, the design house has taken relaxed fits for the ladies to a whole new level.

2. Saint Sintra

Saint Sintra was founded in February this year and has so far found its fandom in names like Olivia Rodrigo, Kali Uchis and Kim Petras. For its Spring/Summer 2022 NYFW show, the designer found her inspiration from cartoons like The Pink Panther and Star Trek – defining futuristic fantasy as the mood of her line. With a riot of colour, the clothes depicted optimism, further enhanced with feathers and embellishments. The silhouettes were celebratory and it was executed through corseted dresses and tulle skirts, rejoicing at the return of normalcy.

3. Elena Velez
