We grabbed Kangana Ranaut and designer Manav Gangwani for a quick Facebook Live Q&A at FDCI India Couture Week 2016. (Like what you see here on Kangana? In between all of Gangwani’s wisecracks and Ranaut’s musings, we learned these five nuggets of insider info:
How designers weren’t quite as eager to style her back in the day
Ranaut divulged, “I remember at the beginning of my career, not many designers were excited to give me clothes. I didn’t have a stylist. Those days when I used to walk on the red carpet, I used to co-ordinate my own clothes.”
How she first fell in love with Manav Gangwani’s creations
“I had a shoot and wore Manav’s gowns. I was like, “Who is this designer?” And they told me, “Manav Gangwani.” I went back and researched his work. I contacted him, he dressed me up and the rest, as they say, is history,” smiled Ranaut.
How she is going to be a complete girly-girl on her wedding day
“I never go all the way, (when dressing up for traditional events) I am saving that for my wedding day,” proudly stated Ranaut. “I want to be a Christmas tree; I want to wear everything. I want to wear everyone’s jewellery – my mum’s, my sister’s, my own – I want to look like someone who’s made an effort. There’s no point going for subtlety or pastel shades; I want to look every bit the Indian bride,” she further added.
How she isn’t quite onboard with the Facebook Live phenomenon
“We can’t cut; we can’t go back on our words. It’s like a trap for actors,” giggled the Queen actress.
How the only thing you need to trust on your wedding day is your instinct
“Every girl should feel special on her big day. Go by your instincts and not by the rules, because you don’t want to look back and feel, ‘Oh, that time it was in fashion. Now it doesn’t look so good.’ Just go by your rules, do what makes you happy and have a blast.” Hear, hear. We couldn’t agree more.
