Not all love stories reach their happily ever after. This is especially true in the film industry, where the pressure of being constantly in the limelight bring a bitter end to marriages and engagements alike. Recently, news broke that Twilight star Robert Pattinson and his beautiful fiancee, singer FKA Twigs, ended their long-term engagement. The couple started dating in September 2014 and announced their engagement 7 months later. Despite being inseparable initially, they drifted apart in the past one year, revealed a close source.

Bollywood has its own history of broken relationships. Before Abhishek Bachchan married the love of his life, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, he was engaged to Karishma Kapoor in 2002. The couple called it quits after rumours about their family’s differences started floating in. Here’s a look at all the loved-up celebrity couples who never made it to the altar.

Soon enough, rumours about difference in their families' being the reason started doing the rounds. Jaya Bachchan stated in an interview that the families should not be held responsible as it was Abhishek’s decision which he painfully took on his own. Now, Abhishek Bachchan is happily married to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Karishma Kapoor lives with her 2 children after her divorce with husband Sanjay Kapoor.

Salman Khan and Sangeeta Bijlani

Salman and Sangeeta’s love affair was a popular one back in the '90s; the couple were serious about their relationship and were planning to get married too. Even though, Salman’s love life has always been full of controversies, the Dabangg star wanted to settle with Sangeeta as she was the first woman he fell in love with. According to Salman’s biography Being Salman written by Jasim Khan, the duo had finalized their wedding date and were planning to tie the knot on 27 May 1994, but the wedding was called off later. Salman even confessed to it on Koffee with Karan while having a candid conversation with Karan Johar.

FKA Twigs and Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs have ended their engagement after three years. According to The Sun “Rob is tired of it, has called off their engagement and told friends they have split. With so much history between them, though, there are still strong feelings there. They were almost inseparable for their first two years together,” the report read. “But in recent months they have really started to drift apart and have been spending less and less time together." The couple started dating after the Twilight star attended her concert in London back in September 2014 and got engaged 7 months later.

Zayn Malik Perrie Edwards

Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards' love story began on the set of The X Factor; the couple had an instant spark and started dating shortly after. A passage from the book Our World written by the Little Mix star said "It was horrible, the worst time in my life. A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that. Even though things in my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me. Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande

Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande were television's 'it' couple, but after 6 years of togetherness, the couple ended things amicably and called their wedding off in December 2013. A source close to the couple revealed “As long as the two were on the same page professionally, it was fine. Sushant has had a successful run with films and Ankita’s career in Bollywood is yet to take off. This created friction between the two and somewhere, along the way, their ideologies didn’t match.”
