The Milan Fashion Week SS22 presentations have officially wrapped, and we have some first impressions. The beauty briefs for this season not only managed to pop off the runway but also merged in seamlessly with the garments. We saw legacy brands like Versace and Fendi go big with either hair or makeup but still maintain their collections’ integrity throughout. We also saw some younger brands take risks on the runway, but never in a way that it distracted from the clothes – it was all so fluid.
It is always a treat to see fashion and beauty work in such harmony on the runway, and here are our standout moments from one of the chicest beauty seasons we’ve seen in a while.
1. Versace
Versace’s SS22 presentation pulled in big names like Naomi Campbell and Dua Lipa. The lime green and yellow stacked eyeshadow elevated the colour explosion of the rich silk garments.
2. Etro
Thanks to beauty creators on social media, bedazzled makeup has been catapulted to the mainstream; now runway designers are taking note as well. Etro paired graphic prints with stunning diamante and beading under the eyes for a dramatic effect.
3. Marni
Marni never sheds its ‘too cool for school’ vibe on the runway, and the causal yet fierce eye flicks are proof of that. We love the shaky application of the liner here; it is a significant shift from the usually clean and pristine eye looks seen on the runway.
4. ACT N°1
Floor-length hair is everywhere this season, and ACT N°1’s braiding act took it a lot further. Models held on to their braids which doubled up as the most unusual accessory rarely seen on the runway.
5. Fendi
Fendi kept it classic on the runway – big and structural hairdos perfectly complemented the sharp-looking collection. The mixed-pattern hairstyles also stood out among the more contemporary beauty looks we saw during the fashion week.
6. Liberatore
Frosted eye looks are trendy right now, but the modern woman is wearing them with a glitter twist. Liberatore’s matte and draped eyeshadow paired with heart-shaped lips reminds us of Helena Bonham Carter from Alice In Wonderland, and we love that.
7. Ferragamo
Statement hair accessories were few and far between during Milan Fashion Week, but Ferragamo’s silky scarves saved the day. Models sported actual and faux bangs that were held in place with scarf headbands.
8. Emporio Armani
For Emporio Armani’s joint men’s and women’s fashion presentation, the beauty brief seemed to transcend genders. The tapered waves on the women were both androgynous and feminine, blurring the boundaries of beauty fearlessly.
9. Marco Rambaldi
Marco Rambaldi featured many unfiltered beauty moments on the runway, but our standout of it all was the gorgeous greys. Brushed back in their natural texture, the show’s beauty indeed merged with the lazy afternoon on which it took place.
