Filmmaker and character animator Jacob Frey‘s short The Present was his thesis for a course at a German film school. But once it appeared on the festival circuit, it mopped up all the awards—50, at last count. You’ll soon see why. This 4.18-minute film is that unfailingly sweet story of a boy and his dog. But this one gets off to a rough start. It’s a simple plot, with hardly any dialogue, but Frey’s rendition of the puppy steals the show. Even in such a short time, the little fellow impresses with his playful, high-energy, extremely wriggly personality. Watch this one for your daily dose of aww.
