One of Bollywood’s most-loved design labels Payal Singhal is joining forces with handbag brand Caprese for the Summer Resort ’19 showcase at Lakme Fashion Week. The designer will be presenting the new collection of Caprese bags, along with her designs at the showcase. Where Renaissance-meets-Mughal-art, Singhal’s collection, ‘Qo’shlish (which is Uzbek for ‘confluence’), is imagined along the Silk Route. Beginning in Samarkand in Uzbekistan, the journey continued all through the Balkan nations in Easter Europe, Hindu Kush ranges along the Afghan-Pakistan border, Lahore in Pakistan, finally reaching the valleys of Kashmir and Himachal, just inching its way through ancient Delhi and Benares.
Going with the belief that creativity isn’t bound by boundaries or borders, her collection takes inspiration from medieval-gothic European architecture and merges it with transcontinental techniques, Indian folk art and modish craftsmanship. Singhal’s iconic style and Caprese’s modern contemporary sensibilities make for the perfect partners on the runway.
Along with Singhal’s signature fashion favourites, the collection also consists of newer silhouettes such as Nizami shararas, short lean kurtas, contemporary sarees, and renaissance tops, in fabrics such as crepe, velvet, georgette, silk, organza, brocade, and tissue. “The term ‘indo-western’ has become generic today, but it is actually a nuanced blend of influences from numerous countries and their cultures on Indian design sensibilities, honed over centuries. This has been highlighted throughout the Qo’shilish collection, where each technique and motif has a story to tell.”
