Former investment banker Aditi Amin gave in to her love for design and jewellery when she founded her eponymous brand seven years ago. Her latest collection, Uncut, launched with celebrity muse Soha Ali Khan, is inspired by her knowledge of and exposure to the striking pieces of jewellery rooted in the Indian heritage. Uncut is all about feminine, understated pieces of uncut diamond jewellery. The dainty collection features both bridal and everyday-wear pieces in stones of multiple colours and art deco shapes. The minimal yet graceful design of the necklaces, bracelets, and earrings allows seamless transition from day to night and occasion-to-occasion. ELLE caught up with designer Aditi Amin to find out more about the collection.
ELLE: Can you tell us a little about what inspired you to launch Uncut?
Aditi Amin: For me designing larger-than-life statement jewellery pieces is an expression of art and it can be regarded as my inspiration too. Uncut for me is an amalgamation of my exposure to every beautiful piece of jewellery I have ever come across. It has originated from the need to create something new, yet be rooted in our heritage, which is so rich in its techniques. Using the traditional Indian jewellery making technique of Polki, I have attempted to create a contemporary more modern style of jewellery which is understated, minimal, and elegant.
ELLE: How do you envision the pieces to be styled?
AA: Uncut by Aditi Amin designs jewellery pieces that are stated, unique, and feminine. Our jewellery is very versatile; it could be teamed-up in many different ways. One could wear it with western attire for an evening out or a pre-wedding festivity. Uncut jewellery also makes for a great destination accessory.
ELLE: Do you have a personal favourite from Uncut?
AA: I feel jewellery by Uncut transcends time and age. The entire collection would be a part of my timeless jewellery box.
ELLE: What is your current favourite trend in jewellery?
AA: Elegant, simplified, statement-making jewellery pieces are trending this season. Statement pieces, unique earrings, rings, and cuffs paired with subtle, simpler clothing options make for a great look this season.
ELLE: Which piece of jewellery would you pick for a cocktail party?
AA: Cocktail jewellery by definition is stated, unique, and bold. A piece of jewellery which when worn makes you feel special and sets you apart in the crowd is what makes for true cocktail jewellery.
ELLE: What’s your favourite piece of jewellery that you wear every day?
AA: I am sentimentally attached to my engagement ring and my wedding band; those are two of my favourite and most treasured pieces of jewellery.
ELLE: One piece of jewellery in your wardrobe that you simply cannot do without?
AA: There are many pieces of jewellery I can’t do without, but to name a few: I have a beautiful pair of Polki and diamond-studded chandbalis which have my heart. Also, a chunky Polki fusion kada that I can team up with western, as well as ethnic outfits, are my favourite timeless pieces.
ELLE: What do you wish to explore in the future?
AA: I like to constantly reinvent myself through this jewellery brand. Our mission is to always create never-seen-before jewellery pieces. The goal is to continue on this path and create more magic along the way.
