A bunch of fans caught Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor on a date
Way back in January
Bollywood’s latest celebrity couple and co-stars Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor may have only just admitted to being in a relationship, but it’s clear the seeds of this romance were first sown way back in January, when they began their shooting schedule for their upcoming film Brahmastra in Tel Aviv. The two probably assumed they could pass off for regular Indian tourists while they spent quality time together at a local bar — but their alone time was interrupted by fans. Though the duo obliged to their requests, they don’t look so happy to be photographed:
Rumours abounded in the press, kicking into high gear when the couple made a public appearance together at Sonam Kapoor’s wedding in May. But the internet really went into meltdown mode when Ranbir opened up about the relationship in an interview with GQ. “It’s really new right now, and I don’t want to overspeak. It needs time to breathe and it needs space. As an actor, as a person, Alia is — what’s the right word — flowing right now. When I see her work, when I see her act, even in life, what she gives is something that I’m aspiring to for myself,” he said.
The film is slated to release on August 15, 2019, but it seems the Kapoor family is welcoming Alia into the fold with open arms. Ranbir’s sister, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, gifted her a gorgeous gold and diamond bracelet from her eponymous brand, which Alia proudly showed off on social media.
The weird celebrity couples of 2018 (who we’re openly rooting for)
Let's not even talk about celebrity relationships if you're not prepared to discuss Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. The two reportedly met through Priyanka Chopra's Quantico co-star and Nick Jonas' friend, Graham Rogers. The first public appearance they made together was at the MET Gala last year when they showed up together in Ralph Lauren. While matching fashion sensibilities is a good enough reason as any to pick a date, the two seemed to be hitting it off on the red carpet.
Since, they have been spotted at sporting games together, as well as hanging out with a bunch of other famous people on yachts getting cosy. As a source told Us Weekly earlier this week, "They are dating and it’s brand new. It’s a good match and they are both interested in each other." The real reason why their relationship seems to weird fans out though is because nobody really saw it coming and well, the age difference. Priyanka Chopra is 10 years older than the 25-year-old, but we're here shouting "Get it, gurl." The only worry: Now that Quantico's been cancelled, how will long distance work?
Why don't you just read the body language for yourself:
We don't need to go into why this is weird and possibly not true. The rumours of these two getting together have been flying around the internet since they've been teasing fans about it on Instagram and at their respective concerts. Nicki even featured on Eminem's new track Big Bank rapping, "Told them I met Slim Shady, bag the Em/ Once he go black, he'll be back again." Anyone who has been listening to rap long enough is sure to get creeped out by this union, it's like watching your childhood merge with your present on a very dysfunctional timeline. To be honest, we're selfishly hoping this is true. Even if the couple does eventually break up, just imagine the diss tracks...
This is one for the relationship professionals. Alia Bhatt has gone on record to say how growing up, she had the biggest crush on Ranbir Kapoor. And everyone in the industry seems to have their own thoughts on Ranbir's track record when it comes to dating his co-stars. But this is only weird because it reminds us of another former celebrity relationship: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. While the age difference isn't comparable, the story is similar. A little girl grows up to be an actress and have her childhood crush turn over a new leaf to become the man of her dreams. While it didn't work out in the case of Tom and Katie, it would seem the full Kapoor clan is on board with Ranbir and Alia. Which would probably make Alia the first of Ranbir's girlfriends after Sonam to be liked by Kareena Kapoor.
This isn't weird so much as goofy. And also, unexpected. From Ariana's last two relationships, we had deduced that the singer had a type: rappers. But it turns out she's reverted to her comedy days by dating SNL star Pete Davidson. Both started out their careers young in comedy, Dave in SNL at 20 and Ariana on Nickelodeon when she was just 16. Still, Dave's goofy vibe is a far cry from Big Sean or Mac Miller, Ariana's last two boyfriends. The two have been super cutesy all over each other's Instagram, and to be honest, we're kind of happy the funny guy got the girl.
