Everything Manish Malhotra touches turns to opulence, from a metallic runway glittering like a flattened disco ball, to the front row guests (Shweta Nanda, Natasha Poonawala) whose collective net worth could rival that of a small country.
And given the mega-watt setting, Manish seemed determined to razzle dazzle ’em. The voluminous proportions of princess ballgowns were balanced out by light-weight crinolines that the designer experimented with for the first time. Swarovski crystals and hand-cut 3D blooms covered every square inch of fabric, because who understands the power of entertainment better than Manish Malhotra.
The loudest cheers, of course, were reserved for the moment Ranveer Singh hit the ramp, basking in the attention of a thousand adoring eyes. He may have stolen a little of his co-showstopper’s thunder, but made up for it by keeping Alia Bhatt in a constant state of giggles as she joined him on the ramp.
When the curtains finally came down on the show, confetti canons et al, the applause refused to die. It was, without a doubt, a climax scene worthy of a cinematic legend.
