This year’s amfAR gala will make you see red. The most awaited event of the Cannes Film Festival, Carine Roitfeld’s annual charity bash this year, will paint the runway in the brazenly bold colour of love (and the colour of the AIDS ribbon). For this, 40 fashion houses, including Chanel, Burberry, Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, Tom Ford, Versace, Gucci and Givenchy, have created scarlet-tinted evening looks with cinema’s sexiest siren, Marilyn Monroe, as their inspiration. And who else, but a cast of the top 40 models, including Karlie Kloss, Arizona Muse and Toni Garn, to show them off.
After a spectacular display, the gowns will also be auctioned off to raise money for the charity, along with other yet-to-be announced once-in-a-lifetime lots. Previous years’ lots include a kiss from George Clooney, a private performance by Duran Duran and a photo shoot with Karl Lagerfeld. With last year’s auction raising $25 million, expectations are high for this one. Film and fashion royalty, including Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, John Travolta, Milla Jovovich and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan will preside over the benefit this year.
