From balancing everyday routine while working from home to keeping anxiety at bay, the situation takes a toll on every aspect of our body. Hair fall is one collateral damage no one asked for. Beauty enthusiasts know by now that our mind and body are intrinsically linked. Meaning when the stress regulating hormone cortisol is high, it can change the four stages of your hair cycle, leading to hair fall. When a large number of hair follicles are pushed into the resting phase, they start shedding before their time. This is called telogen effluvium. Hence, it’s essential to keep your stress level in check.

Healthy scalp = healthy hair. Massaging the scalp boosts blood flow which stimulates the hair follicles to encourage growth. Using hair oil is ideal for the scalp, especially coconut oil, as it reduces the loss of protein from your hair before washing. It also absorbs moisture directly into the scalp inhibiting dryness. 

 

Don’t Skip Conditioner! 

 

Dehydration of hair is a real thing. If you only use harsh sulphate shampoos sans a conditioner, it can lead to brittle hair. Most good conditioners are humectant in nature which keeps hair soft. Apply conditioner after every wash and leave it on for 2-3 minutes.

 

Balance Your Diet 

 

Protein, iron, zinc and vitamin D deficiency in your body can also contribute to hair loss. Eating fish, nuts, beans, dried fruits, and vegetables should be part of your daily diet.

Mindfulness and breathing exercises before bed can relieve the day’s stress, keeping hair fall in check. You can opt for yoga or try meditation apps like Calm, Headspace, Happify, Breathe and Rootd. 

 

Tension Releasing Exercises 

 

Physical exercises on a daily basis can elevate the production of endorphins–the neurotransmitters responsible for a feel-good mood. Moving for 30 minutes, three days in a week – be it a jog on your terrace, a brisk walk in the house or a stretching session via YouTube – can help lower your blood pressure, improve your immunity and ultimately reduce hair fall.
