Anamika Khanna at Kensington Palace
London-based store Aashni + Co has been invited to Kensington Palace to showcase Indian contemporary designs at Fashion Parade, an event that will also exhibit collections by seven Pakistani designers, including Faiza Samee, Ayesha Hashwani, Nomi Ansari, Zara Shahjahan, Seher Tareen, and Nazneen Tariq, as well as British fashion designer, Romero Bryan.
Aashni Shah, founder and creative director of the multi-label store, will present Anamika Khanna’s Couture Spring/Summer 2013 collection. “I think Anamika has great design aesthetic – a perfect cross-over which balances traditions of the east and west. Having a strong Indian sensibility in design and coupling it with western silhouettes makes it appealing not only to Asians but the British and Europeans as well. Her couture collection showed some fantastic contours, embroidery and intriguing techniques, such as stripped metal,” said Shah.
Khanna’s couture collection showcased a mix of silhouettes, including flowing capes and structured embroidered bodycon jackets. Speaking about the event, Khanna said, “We hope to be able to cross boundaries and present a global collection. We would like to retain our heritage but put it out in a modern international space."
Fashion Parade will be held at Kensington Palace, London, on June 9.
