Anupama Dayal for Ekaya
When you think of Benarasi sarees you think jewel tones. But designer Anupama Dayal’s collection uses these only as a starting point, to reimagine them in pop and pastel hues and fabrics like silk georgette.
Dayal is hoping to bring together history and modernism with ‘Kama’, a line that also includes scarves, dupattas in fabrics like silk chiffons and crêpe – over 50 designs, in all.
“To have had this opportunity to tweak the Banarasi [sarees] to become more versatile and playful has been a complete joy,” says Dayal.
Speaking about the collaboration, Palak Shah of Ekaya says she is most excited about the khaddi saree. “[Dayal] also plays with the drape of khaddi sarees, which are very popular at Ekaya with women who like to dress traditional with a twist.”
