Don’t forget, the Mijwan Welfare society launched by Kaifi Azmi now enjoys the combined star weightage of his daughter Shabana Azmi, her husband Javed Akhtar and Bollywood’s biggest fashion designer. So naturally, the front row was teeming with more stars than the Milky Way. Of course, Anushka Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan walked the ramp. If you’ve got it, flaunt it.

Through concentrated efforts like these to raise awareness and funding, the dusty village in UP that most of us wouldn’t be able to locate on a map now offers its female population the holy grail of education and steady income. “Girls in Mijwan now dream of being computer engineers and entrepreneurs,” said Shabana Azmi. And after Shah Rukh and Anushka ended the fashion show — featuring over 50 garments conjured up by Manish the magician in 10 days — the Bollywood star thought it fit to add his own nugget of wisdom. “When learning is given to women, they take it much further than when it’s given to men. They take it to children, they are more honest and earnest about it. And because I’m a romantic, nobody can love like a woman.”
