Ashish Soni styles Gabriel Macht

As longtime fans of Suits, we were glad to find out that designer Ashish Soni had been roped in to style Gabriel Macht (that’s Harvey Specter to you and me) for Ballantine’s new ad campaign.

Of course, we caught up with Soni about the experience: “I work with closely Pernod Ricard, the parent company of Ballantine’s – I’ve styled various commercials for them in the past for Royal Stag, 100 Pipers, Chivas.”

The ad was shot over the course of four days in New York, at the One World Trade Center. He started with the rest of the cast. “There’s a lot of VFX involved, freeze frames and such, but we also had to construct garments with wires, to look like they were half-flying, and mid-air.”

Gabriel Macht is by now synonymous with Harvey Specter, so they decided to maintain that look. “Everybody relates strongly to Harvey Specter – so we decided to keep that look and work it into script.” And Soni was glad to discover just how involved Macht was, “right from the colour of the shoes to the socks and pocket squares”. On the show you’ll find him in a lot of Tom Ford. But on the ad Soni chose to mix it up, so you’ll see him in ties from Gucci and shoes from John Lobb, among other labels.
