Athiya Shetty spills her beauty secrets

We sat down with Athiya Shetty after a lengthy schedule for her latest photoshoot for Maybelline New York. The #GirlsGoneVivid campaign has her bringing the best beauty trends of New York Fashion Week to India. With ace make-up artist Elton J Fernandez in tow, she has been playing around with different looks the whole day and appears to have forgotten about lunch. We caught up with her in between make-up changes and she obliged us by opening up about her beauty regimen, secret hacks and just about everything else.

ELLE: What are the 3 looks that you personally loved from New York Fashion Week 2016?

Athiya Shetty: I think the vivid matte lips, contouring and the playful eyeshadows make it to my list of personal favourites!

ELLE: What beauty trends are you looking forward to this festive season?

AS: I think it’s all about the lips this time; vivid is the way to go. You can play around a lot with the reds, the pinks and the oranges.

ELLE: What does your beauty ritual involve?

AS: Because of my profession, we need to constantly apply make-up and it’s really important to let your skin breathe. So, towards the end of the day, I think it’s very important to remove your make-up and leave your skin squeaky clean. I usually use the Maybelline Make-up Remover because I like its texture; it has an oil base so it doesn’t leave your skin too dry. Also, never go to bed without using a night cream.

ELLE: What’s the one beauty trick that you’ve learned on the job?

AS: I will be honest, I used to be horrible at applying kajal and eyeliner. Now, I feel like I’ve mastered that and I always have the Maybelline Colossal Kajal on me.

ELLE: Red lips or nude?

AS: Red definitely!

ELLE: Who was your beauty icon when you were growing up?

AS: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, hands down.

ELLE: What’s your favourite nail colour right now?

AS: I actually had a mint green one that I just removed!

ELLE:  What’s the one red carpet faux pas that you will never make again?

AS: I don’t believe in the term ‘faux pas’ actually. If you are confident, you can own anything.

ELLE: What’s the most played song on your iPod right now?

AS: I can’r get enough of ‘Closer’ by The Chainsmokers.

ELLE: What’s the one thing people don’t know about you?

AS: Everyone thinks that I am very prim, elegant and poised but I am really not. I am quite retarded and goofy.

ELLE: What’s the last lie that you said?

AS: I told my mom I had breakfast. Which I actually had, but only half of it!

ELLE: What’s the one fashion trend that you will never try?

AS: I want to try everything, to be honest. It’s all about trial and error and experimenting.
