Laidback buns are a universal sign of things being checked off a to-do list. On the runway, unlike last season’s top knots, we spotted carelessly twisted chignons that were slicked back and worn low with an air of nonchalance, sans any face framing tendrils. Backstage, we learnt that the secret to mastering imperfect ’dos lies in root-lifting products, no flyaways and blow dried hair. At Altuzarra, the hair was pulled back in a sleek bun and was casually twisted at the back. At Balmain, a low ponytail was doubled up and tied with a black elastic, with the ends left sticking out. At Brock Collection, hairstylist Peter Gray wrapped random sections of hair around his fingers and loosely pinned them into a bun. At Ermanno Scervino, Winona Ryder’s ’90s updo inspired the criss-cross knots that were twisted into soft loops and secured at the nape.
