How to ace couple dressing, according to 7 of Bollywood’s best dressed couples

Slay together, stay together

When attending Bollywood’s biggest wedding reception, how do you make a power-packed statement? Nope, not through ostentatious designer ensembles. Not blingy designer accessories either. It’s when you’re complementing your significant other — in couture, of course.

The newly-wedded couple set the tone themselves, decked out in Anamika Khanna. Anand wore the classic black sherwani with gold embellished buttons and a gold embroidered patch under the chest pocket, styled with white pyjamas and, not so surprisingly, Nike sneakers. Sonam stole the show in her light brown, cream and gold lehenga choli set. Neither maximal nor minimal, they kept their outfits effortless and elegant in equal measure.

Take a look at all the power couples who made a strong statement at the Sonam-Anand wedding reception through their choice of outfits.

From Saifeena to Shahid and Mira — the best dressed couples at Sonam Kapoor’s wedding:

Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Abhishek and Aishwarya chose a classic yet understated colour — off-white — one of the most trending shades for summer weddings this year. Decked in ensembles by Manish Malhotra, Abhishek's white kurta and sherwani with off-white embellishment complements Aishwarya's intricately-embroidered anarkali.

Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan

SRK and his wife chose a darker palette, ideal for evening occasions. Dressed in a black bandhgala and trousers, SRK complements Gauri's black and beige shimmering gown and jacket from Tarun Tahiliani.

Akshay and Twinkle Khanna

Yet another classic colour combination of black and white. Twinkle wore a white embellished kurta and churidar set from Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. Akshay is the yang to her yin in his black kurta with gold buttons and white pyjama set.

Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal

Varun and his girlfriend Natasha chose light, pastel hues that are perfect for a summer wedding. While Varun opted for a blue Chikankari sherwani with white pyjamas from Manish Malhotra, Natasha went for an elegant beige lehenga choli set with exquisite floral embroidery.

Shahid and Mira Kapoor

Asymmetrical and edgy was the vibe for Shahid and Mira, dressed in tones of black, light brown and off-white. Shahid chose an asymmetrical bandhgala from Antar-Agni that he paired with black trousers. Mira matched him in a black and off-white Anamika Khanna sari gown styled with trousers and a light-brown belt.

Saif Ali and Kareena Kapoor Khan

Saif and Kareena made sure they stood out in their stunning combination of black and gold. Saif kept it classic with his black Manish Malhotra sherwani with gold buttons, a white pocket square and white churidaar, and Kareena added the sexiness to their look with her embellished gold lehenga sari with a barely-there choli. Check out all the hot cholis we spotted at Sonam's wedding reception.

Raj and Shilpa Shetty Kundra

The duo's sartorial picks were simple yet elegant. Raj picked a black kurta and pyjama set that he styled with a white bandi. Meanwhile, Shilpa opted for a ice blue draped sari from Tarun Tahiliani.

Decoding the body language of these madly-in-love celebrity couples:

Holding hands

Holding hands with someone you love releases a chemical called oxytocin that reduces stress. But the way you hold hands says a lot about your relationship with the person attached to the hand your holding. Akshay Kumar and Twinkle are the perfect couple to demonstrate the 'palm down' hand hold, possibly the most common of all the hand embraces. Akshay's hand is on top with his palm facing down establishing him as the more dominant one in this scenario. This is more often than not a protective stance. Not that Twinkle needs protecting, but it's always nice to have a helping hand.

Palms up

Putting your palms up doesn't just mean you want to raise the roof. It's a non-threatening gesture meant to symbolise offering yourself to your partner. According to psychologists, when you laugh in a room full of people, the person whose eye you catch in that moment is the person closest to you. The steady eye contact, Akshay's lean towards Twinkle and her upward-facing palms are seriously #goals

Feet placement

No one really spends a lot of time looking at their partners' feet unless they have a foot fetish. But you may want to check out your lover's feet for reasons other than convincing them to get a manicure. In this couple's photo, you can clearly see Akshay's feet pointing towards Twinkle. Translation? He's moving towards her. The body points towards where the mind wants to go

Mirroring

It's a psychological phenomenon where you start naturally imitating the person you're with. Their body language, the words they use and sometimes, even the way they dress. Ever hear the phrase, "Your'e rubbing off on me" ? That's mirroring right there.

The arm link

More common on red carpets but when seen in front of street art, it implies the person holding their partner's arm is seeking protection. It could also be seen as possessiveness. Mark your territory, gurl.

The lingering kiss

Shahid put this picture up in celebration of his one-year anniversary with Mira, but he didn't need to caption it because the lingering kiss gave away everything. A firm kiss planted on the lips is reserved for someone you love, extending that kiss long enough to get an Instagram worthy shot is reserved for fresh love.

Eye contact

Lingering eye contact is a sign of affection and also strengthens the bond between a couple. But the real clincher here is in the pupils, dilated pupils means you're looking at something you love.. or that you're on drugs. Love is a drug, right?
